Wild Horses

A few minutes from the casinos in downtown Reno you’ll often find wild mustangs roaming around. Their beauty never seize to amaze me.

Enjoy your day 🙂

Summer in Black and White

Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilization which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilization itself.
― Edward Abbey

That is so true. My little girl, my dog and I took a walk in the high desert this morning. We walked early, since it’s going to be another hot Nevada day today. When we got back we were told that a mountain lion was spotted right where we lived. I know I will be keeping my camera close by. I have only seen a mountain lion twice, and only for a few seconds each time. I’ve never been able to shoot them with my camera. You never know..(of course I will also make sure to take necessary safety actions.. and keep my child and dog close by at all times.)

Enjoy your Saturday!

PS. I finished a most exciting book last night Almost Human. I absolutely love the writing voice of Kenneth L. Decroo. The book is a page turner. Once i started reading it I did’t want to stop. The language is brilliant, and the story most exciting. I’m not going to give away the story, but what makes it exciting is that it is very real. This is a fiction, however these thoughts might very well be something scientists discuss, and have discussed for long time. There’s some parallels (maybe not purposely) with what Hitler tried to achieve with his super race. I rarely read thrillers, but really enjoyed this one. I can highly recommend it!

High Desert Summer

The weather has been in the three-digits today, and it looks like the hot weather is here to stay. I looked at the ten day forecast, and the weather is in the three-digits the whole period. The early mornings are still nice, under 70 degrees (like a warm summer day in Sweden..lol.) I’m trying to do everything important early in the day. Summer is here 🙂 It feels good to be able to adjust life after the weather. I don’t know why, but it makes me feel free. I’m not a big fan of this kind of heat, but I can handle it. Every season is beautiful in its own way.

The desert, when the sun comes up…I couldn’t tell where heaven stopped and the Earth began.
― Tom Hanks

Is it hot where you live? How do you stay comfortable in the heat?

I hope you had a great day!

Wild Horses in Black and White

What can I do for YOU? If you’re looking for authentic Western Art for your home, you will find it here.

What can you do for the wild horses? 50% of the proceeds of any photo of a mustang (in the wild, or in a sanctuary, in a private home – any mustang,) in my gallery goes towards non-profits that supports our wild horses. Right now the proceed goes towards Wynema Ranch Wild Horse Sanctuary, and hay for the mustangs in the sanctuary. Not everybody can adopt a horse, donate their time, or money to help our wild horses in need, but everybody can do something. Getting informed about the wild horse situation,  spreading knowledge, talking to your kids/neighbors etc.

Did you know? In 2013, mustangs in holding facilities cost the BLM approximately $43 million a year. According to the 2013 New York Times Retro Report, “More mustangs are estimated to live in government pens than in the wild.” That’s a lot of tax payers money..I like what they are doing at Wynema Ranch, and similar sanctuaries, setting aside a big piece of land similar to their natural habitat where they can continue living as wild horses in a safe, natural environment. If they have the misfortune to lose their freedom, this is the second best alternative. Especially since this type of sanctuary actively invites the public, and informs the public about their work and wild horses in general. Engaging the community for a good cause is always a great idea.

My mustang was caught near the Virginia Range, where I took the photos in today’s post. He was caught because he and his band wandered out on the highway, creating a dangerous situation. He had the fortune to end up at Wynema Ranch Wild Horse Sanctuary, where I met him. Horses that shows an interest in people, some wild horses are very curious about people, becomes available for adoption. In this way they have a say about their future. Rebel, the mustang I adopted, started to follow me around when I was taking pictures at the sanctuary. Other horses will continue living their whole life at the sanctuary. Of course this cost money, and non-profits like Wynema Ranch depends on donations from people like you and me. Isn’t it great that we have the opportunity to make a difference?

I hope you’re having a great day!

A walk in the desert

s9 (1)

My daughter, and our dog, on a lovely evening walk in the desert near our home.  Just before I took this photo I explained for her that we had to look out for rattle snakes, and spiders, that I wanted her to stay where I could see her. Her reaction? Grabbing our dogs collar, explaining to him that he has to stay close to her so “no animal get you.” He gladly accepted to walk slowly by her side. I thought it was very sweet.

I hope you’re having a good day!
