Growing up in northern California has had a big influence on my love and respect for the outdoors. When I lived in Oakland, we would think nothing of driving to Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz one day and then driving to the foothills of the Sierras the next day. – Tom Hanks
If I would have to choose one thing, to pass on to my daughter “love and respect for the outdoors”, would be high on my list. It makes me thrilled to see how much she loves the great outdoor. To see her fascination as we explore a new trail, splash our feet in a chilly mountain lake, her joy about finding cool rocks in the desert, seeing how much nature means to her, makes my heart burst with happiness.
I love, how this love of hers makes her react to people throwing trash in the forest, or on the beach. How she wants to nurture, and care for things. I want to nurture this love at all costs. I treasure our conversations, explorations in the wild, and I welcome the questions. How could we expect our kids to learn without asking why? I believe we need to nurture a love for nature, in our children, in our future. It’s worth the time, patience, and effort – the reward doesn’t have a price tag!
Just some thoughts this early Tuesday morning 🙂 Have a wonderful day!
