Thank YOU!

I’ve had a goal of reaching 2000 followers on my “newish” blog for a few months, and I reached it today! Yiiiha!!! THANK YOU!!
The whole purpose with my blog is to inspire, and get inspired by fellow photographers around the world. Feel free to get inspired, and share your wisdom. It’s free and will always be.

The photo above is a rescued mountain lion, residing at Animal Ark, Reno (NV.) Mountain Lion, predator common in North America’s wilderness areas. Also known as cougar, puma, panther, and catamount.

My daughter and I visited the park when they opened for the season, this past weekend. If you’re in Reno, it’s well worth the 30 min drive out to Animal Ark to see, and support the rescued wild animals they care for. The park is very well maintained, and the experience is unforgettable. They currently have a 7 months old tiger cub, (photos to come,) the cutest, most playful thing I ever seen!!

Have an awesome week!!

Yours,

Maria

Atop

hd2 (1)

Going on a road trip always makes me feel on top of my world (along with jeans that fits just right, boots, and being on the back of a brave horse) !! My daughter shares that feeling. Right now we’re on a road trip in my favorite road trip state Nevada!

Of course our favorite roads are not the usual highways, but rather endless dirt roads.

This week, consider your point of view as you respond to this challenge’s theme, “Atop.” If you’re physically on top of a thing or a place — a mountain, a skyscraper — what type of scene do you want to share in your frame? Consider, too, other interpretations of “Atop” — what does it mean or look like to be on top of a soapbox? A bestseller list? The world?

Show us your best image — we look forward to seeing everyone’s takes!

What make you feel on top of your world?

Yours,

Maria

Dreams Should Be Lived #MyFirstPostRevisited

Who am I? I’m a Swedish girl with an obsession of horses, residing in Nevada (USA.) I spend as much time as I possibly can outdoors; hiking, camping, looking at wild horses, or playing with my mustang. I LOVE taking road trips. I’m a dreamer, the kind that goes after her dreams.

My grandmother gave me my first camera when I was five years old, and I’ve been taking photos ever since; different cameras, different people, different countries, but it’s highly unusual to see me without my camera.

I only have a couple addictions that I don’t want to live without; strong coffee in the morning, wide open spaces, the joy of hearing my daughters laugh, country music, the pleasure of being around a brave horse, and ending each day in peace.

I recently moved to Reno (NV,) and I am in the process of taking my photography business to the next level. Horses is my number one passion, and have been since before I could walk. Naturally there’s been a focus on horses in my photography business as well. Lately I’ve discovered a demand for other forms of outdoor portraits, and after some consideration decided to start all over with a new business plan, a new website (actually two; one gallery, and one blog,) and do it under a new name.

It’s a little scary to start all over, when you already have a working concept, but I know that I would regret it if I didn’t follow my gut instinct in this. Imagination is the only limit, and I’ve always had a vivid imagination.

One of my personal goals is to ride The Tevis Cup, (the worlds toughest endurance race.) I hope to ride my Virginia Range Mustang, that I adopted in December of last year. It’s a long term goal, and it’s going to take us at least two years to get there. It’s certainly a very exciting project, I love every minute I get to spend with him. He is a real character, and you will definitely see, and read about our journey here on the blog.

Planning 2017’s Garden

z2

I absolutely love this time of the year! The time to plan, and soon plant, a garden. It’s exciting times!

The photo above is of my daughter, super proud over her zucchini’s, that she grew all by herself. We are mostly into growing food, a lot of food. This morning I wrote a list of the container garden we have now, and the annual garden I want to plant this year. It’s all based on what we enjoy eating. We are not vegetarians, but we eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, because we like it! This is the list I came up with.

Container garden:

6 Olive Trees

4 Fig trees (2 one year old + 2 three year olds.)

1 Nectarine Tree (1 year old.)

1 White Peach Tree (2-3 year old.)

4 Elberta Peach Trees (1 year old.)

1 Pomegranate tree (2-3 year old? Maybe get a couple more for better pollination?)

1 Sweet Cherry Tree (2-3 year old. Maybe get one other variety? Usually a good idea for better fruiting.)

1 Wild Plum Tree (BIG, and very beautiful.)

A bunch of 1-2 year old apple and pear trees of unknown variety.

Annual Vegetable Garden:

Heirloom Tomatoes

Cherry Tomatoes (LOTS, my daughter’s favorite vegetable..)

Corn (my daughter’s second favorite.)

Pumpkins

Watermelons

Zucchini

Sweet Bell Peppers

Jalapeno Hot Peppers

Baby Spinach

Strawberries

Blueberries

Basil

Cilantro

Should I ad something to my annual garden? What did I forget? (We live in hardiness zone 9, with long hot summers.) I always love new ideas!!

I am going to make a garden at a new location. So I have to figure out what kind of garden beds I want to have. Something I’m planning on dedicating this weekend to. I’d love ideas about that as well. Last year I made garden beds out of old tires. It worked, but I might try something different this year. I want a bigger garden! I do like the ideas of garden beds, I feel that it makes me more in control. Bring it on! I want to hear all about your successful garden tips!

Yours,

Maria

Winter Wonderland

b-1

After all the hard work getting the new-old RV in shape last week, it was awesome to go for a little road trip this weekend, one fun night in Reno, and a day of snowboarding in Lake Tahoe. It was the first time I went snowboarding after my daughter’s birth 4 years ago. When I lived in Sweden my goal was to get at least 100 days/year of snowboarding, and I usually managed to get that. It was exhilarating to be on a board again! The best thing of all is that my daughter now shares my love for snow.

I am so proud of her! It was snowing A LOT, and the wind was blowing hard. The kid slope was closed, so she got to go up on the big slope, on her second day of snowboarding ever. She did great!

We will be back soon for sure!

b3-1

I don’t have any snowboard equipment here in the US, so I rented some. My first thought was, this board don’t have any edges! However, I soon realized that the kind of sharp edges required for good snowboarding in my hometown Åre, wasn’t as important in this abundance of snow. I’m used to rock hard slopes, usually with generous amounts of ice. This was a completely different kind of snowboarding, that I am totally inexperienced with. I will not have any problems adjusting to these quantities of snow! LOL. I’m stoked that it looks like snowboarding is going to be a part of my life again, since it is now obvious that the love of snowboarding is in my daughter’s blood as well.

I hope YOU had an awesome weekend!

Yours,

Maria
